Tim Burton says ‘Beetlejuice 2’ has officially wrapped
Hold on to your striped suits and get ready for the ghost with the most because “Beetlejuice 2” has officially wrapped! Tim Burton, the mastermind behind the 1988 cult classic “Beetlejuice,” posted on Instagram, confirming the news!
Directed by Burton himself and penned by the dynamic duo Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with a story cooked up by Seth Grahame-Smith, this sequel is about to unleash a whole new level of supernatural hilarity. The cast boasts the return of the OG stars—Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara—plus some fresh faces like Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux.
Now, let’s talk about the production rollercoaster this film went through. Picture this: scheduled to kick off the ghostly party in mid-2022, but, bam, industry-wide strikes threw a curveball. Filming got postponed to May 2023, and they hit up London and the regal Princess Helena College in Preston, Hertfordshire, England. And of course, they didn’t forget the OG vibes, shooting key scenes in East Corinth, Vermont, the OG outdoor hotspot.
Then, just when you thought it was showtime, the SAG-AFTRA strike, hits pause on action in July 2023. With only a day and a half left to shoot, the drama was real.
Burton came through with the positivity, celebrating the film being “99 percent done.” The crew dusted off the cobwebs, and on November 16, 2023, the cameras rolled again in Melrose, Massachusetts, wrapping up the next day. Burton spilled the ectoplasmic beans, saying he had a blast making “Beetlejuice 2,” going back to the basics of filmmaking with good people, actors, and puppets. It’s like he rediscovered the ghost with the most magic!
Michael Keaton praised the fun and creativity of working with practical effects, just like the good ol’ days of the original film.
The eagerly anticipated “Beetlejuice” sequel took over the town of Melrose, with star Jenna Ortega seen bicycling down a street under the direction of Tim Burton.
